Tracking broken links

Quick start guide to setting up 404 broken link tracking.

Tracking broken links

Redirect Pro only detects 404 broken links after they're visited, rather than through a web crawl.

This is to ensure the broken links that appear in the app are of the highest relevance, as they are disrupting genuine customer journeys.

Testing 404 broken link tracking

Steps:

  1. Activate the Redirect Pro app embed in your Theme Editor
  2. Visit a random broken link on your store e.g. https://yourstore.com/broken-link.
  3. From your Shopify admin, open Redirect Pro.
  4. Go to the Broken Links page.
  5. Check if the 404 your tested is in the table of Unresolved Broken Links.

Redirect Pro may need to be refreshed before the broken link appears in the table.

Activating Redirect Pro

Redirect Pro can only detect 404 broken links if it's activated in your Theme Editor.

Sometimes, if your theme is changed or updated, Redirect Pro needs to be reactivated.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, open the Online Store sales channel.
  2. Open Themes.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. From the navigation menu on the left, click App Embeds.
  5. Activate Redirect Pro.
  6. Click Save.

Checking your usage allowance

Redirect Pro stops detecting 404 broken links and temporarily disables automatic and pattern redirects if you've reached your monthly visits allowance.

These features will start working again at the start of a new calendar month when your usage resets, or if you upgrade to a plan with a higher allowance.

The monthly allowance of visits to broken links for each plan is:

  • Free - 10 viisits
  • Starter - 50 visits
  • Growth - 500 visits
  • Enterprise - Unlimited visits

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, open Redirect Pro.
  2. Open Billing.
  3. View Usage
  4. If you've reached your allowance, click Activate Plan to upgrade and continue using Redirect Pro.

Using the right domain

Redirect Pro detects 404 broken links on your primary domain and not on secondary domains or subdomains. Try testing a broken link on your primary domain.

If you've recently changed your primary domain or think we might have the wrong one saved in our database, let us know by sending us your myshopify.com URL and your primary domain.

No luck?
