Importing URL redirects

Quick start guide to importing multiple 301 URL redirects at once.

Importing URL redirects

If you're migrating to Shopify or you just have several redirects to create, you can save time by importing them in one go using a spreadsheet.

Preparing your redirects

Before importing your 301 redirects, you need to add them to a spreadsheet using your preferred program (e.g. Excel or Google Sheets). Within your spreadsheet, each row will represent a redirect.

Steps:

  1. Replicate or download a copy of our example spreadsheet
  2. Add Redirect from URLs to column A
  3. Add Redirect to URLs to column B
  4. Save as a '.csv' file
    • Excel: File > Export > Change File Type > CSV (Comma delimited) > Save As
    • Google Sheets: File > Download > comma-separated values (.csv)

If you're experiencing errors in trying to import your spreadsheet, you can learn what might be causing this.

Importing your redirects

Once your .csv spreadsheet file is ready, you can import your 301 redirects in Redirect Pro.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, open Redirect Pro.
  2. Open the Import Redirects page.
  3. Click Import redirects.
  4. Name your import.
  5. Click Add file.
  6. Select your .csv file.
  7. Click Import.

For large files, it may take some time to complete the import. You can continue working and we'll send an email letting you know when it's done to the email address you signed up to Shopify with.

After it's complete you'll see a summary of your import on the Import Redirects page, under the Past Imports section.

If your summary shows some redirected failed to import, you can learn what might be causing this.
