Pattern matches are path-to-destination URL pairings automatically detected when a customer triggers one of your pattern redirects. Available on the Enterprise plan, they let you see exactly which broken URLs are being visited, how often, and give you the option to convert them into permanent 301 redirects for improved SEO. Use pattern matches to scale redirect coverage without losing control or visibility.
Pattern matches are identified each time a customer visits a broken link that matches one of your pattern redirects. They let you see exactly which broken link path was triggered, where it was redirected to by the pattern redirect, and how often it's being visited. You can then decide whether to convert it to a 301 redirect, or ignore it completely.
Note: This feature is available on the Enterprise plan and helps you turn flexible, scalable redirect rules into lasting SEO value.
How are pattern matches created?
Pattern matches are identified automatically when a customer visits a broken link on your site that matches one of your active pattern redirects.
For example, if you’ve created a pattern like:
-
Redirect from:
/collections/⑴/products/⑵
-
Redirect to:
/products/⑵
And a customer lands on /collections/spring-sale/products/shoes
, Redirect Pro will:
- Match the pattern and redirect the customer using JavaScript
- Log the visited broken link URL
/collections/spring-sale/products/shoes
- Record the destination URL defined by the pattern redirect
/products/shoes
- Track how many times this match has been triggered
That pairing becomes a pattern match.
Why use pattern matches?
Pattern matches help you:
- See real usage: Know which broken links your customers are visiting
- Identify high-value redirects: Prioritise paths that get repeat traffic
- Convert to 301s: Improve SEO by turning matches into permanent redirects
- Reduce clutter: Dismiss low-value matches you don’t need to act on
Pattern matches give you visibility and control without losing the flexibility that makes pattern redirects useful in the first place.
Can I convert a pattern match into a 301 redirect?
Yes. From the Pattern Matches page, you can manually select any match and convert it into a 301 redirect. This turns it into a permanent server-side redirect and removes the SEO limitations of JavaScript-based patterns.

Where do I find my pattern matches?
Pattern matches live in a dedicated Pattern Matches page in the app. You can get there by:
