From the Pattern Matches page, Enterprise plan users can manually select one or more matched path/target URL pairs and convert them into 301 redirects. This upgrades them from temporary, JavaScript-based redirects to permanent server-side 301s, improving SEO and ensuring faster redirection for future visits.
Pattern matches show which broken URLs are being triggered by your pattern redirects. If you want to turn these redirects into permanent SEO-friendly 301s, you can convert them directly from the Pattern Matches page.
This feature is only available on the Enterprise plan. Find out how to upgrade.
When should I convert a pattern match?
Consider converting a match into a 301 redirect if:
- The broken URL receives regular traffic
- You want to improve SEO by signalling the change to search engines
- You want to eliminate the slight delay caused by JavaScript-based pattern redirects
You can still leave low-priority or temporary matches unconverted. They’ll continue to redirect as normal using the pattern rule.
How do I convert a match into a 301 redirect?
- Open the Redirect Pro app from your Shopify admin
- Go to the Pattern Redirects page
- Select a pattern redirect in the table
- Click View matches from the bulk actions menu
- Select a match in either the For Review or Hidden tab using the checkbox on each row
- Click Create from the bulk actions menu
Once created:
- The match will move to the Converted tab
- The redirect will be added to your main list of active URL redirects on the URL Redirect page
- Redirect Pro will stop handling that match through the pattern rule - future visits will go straight to the 301
Can I convert hidden matches?
Yes. Go to the Hidden tab, select the match(es), and click Create. Once created, they’ll move to the Converted tab.
Can I undo a converted 301 redirect?
Not directly. If you want to remove a 301 redirect you created from a pattern match:
- Go to the URL Redirects page
- Find and delete the redirect manually
